I first met Dale Sanders in 2014 after a few friends paddled from the Gulf of St Lawrence in Nova Scotia to the Gulf of Mexico in Louisiana. Dale was planning his own adventure to paddle the full length of the Mississippi River, aiming to set an age record. My partners Austin Graham and Bradley Tallent of Adventureitus Productions captured the trek and produced the film Dale Sanders Source to Sea in 2016.

That record-setting adventure wasn't enough for Dale. Confident he could achieve the same feat on foot, he prepared and trained to hike the Appalachian Trail. In 2017, at the age of 82, Dale became the oldest man to accomplish the feat. I documented parts of his journey, resulting in the film Dale on the Trail. Dale's adventures have been an inspiration to many, including myself.

Since then, both records have been beaten. However, Dale re-took the Mississippi River thru-paddle record at age 86 (Dale Sanders: The Man, The Myth, The Mississippi). Now, he plans to reclaim the Appalachian Trail record in 2025-2026 at age 90. Never bet against this man.
